VAIL, Colo., June 12 (UPI) -- A baby moose walks into a hotel...

A Colorado hotel welcomed a pretty wild guest on Monday when a baby moose wandered into the lobby of the Antlers at Vail hotel.

The moose reportedly came into the hotel after children were chasing it around outside. The week-old animal hung around for a while, but left before wildlife officials arrived on the scene.

"He just ran right into the lobby and was in there for about 10 to 20 minutes," Antlers conference services manager Katie Nelson told Vail Daily. "He looked like a newborn, and we were looking around to see if the mom was around. Once he got inside, he just laid down and calmed down. I think he was tired and glad to be away from all the people."

Upper Roaring Fork District wildlife manager Kevin Wright had been contacted about the young calf earlier in the day.

"Long story short, the next thing that happens is I get a call about the calf in the lobby of the hotel," Wright said.

The moose was tranquilized and taken to a Fort Collins facility.

"It's unlikely that we'll ever be able to release it back out into the wild because of all the human interaction it's had, and when they're that young, the experience imprints on their mind," Wright said.

When the moose first appeared in the lobby, some guests thought that it was a large dog.
